I never lived in the same house as Paul but our paths so often crossed over the years. And what I will always remember is the attention and kindness he gave to me--the time he would always take in asking how I was (and meant it). He was everybody's advocate. A good friend of mine reached out to him recently in an accusation case for guidance and help. And despite his deteriorating health and thorugh great physical pain-- Paul very graciously and proudly became his promoter and legal council. He really was a kind of hero to me. He always dressed nice too! RIP, friend...

Paul was an enomous help to me when I served as assistant provincial. His practical and pastoral approach to canon law served me and the (then) new Western Province very, very well. Any time I consult my copy of the Code I think of him.
I had a few days with him when I helped him make the move from Denver to Perryvillle. It is kind of amazing what you can learn about someone, from someone, when helping him pack and move for what he knew would be the final time. I recall gasping when I read notice of his going into hospice care. I hadn't seen him in a year. And, sadly, wouldn't again. Rest in peace, Paul.
