Paul warmly welcomed me to Chicago when I moved here the first time in 1994. He was a mentor, a guide to the complexity of DePaul University, and always a knowledgeable resource. We had Saint Thomas Seminary in common, as well as shared friends in the Canon Law Society of America ... of which I am not a member. But Paul was and a highly valued one at that.
Like others, Paul responded to many of my canonical questions over the years, some just a few months ago. He also heartened me by his laugh, his joy of being a confrere, and his challenging way of helping me see that my way is not always the best way.
Thank you, Paul, for your goodness!
