When Paul was rector of st Thomas Sem in Denver he asked me if I would consider being the director of development there. He told me he thought I would be effective with the many bishops who had seminarians at St Thomas and he thought I had the ability to raise money. I felt honored and was in my thirties so I said yes. But a member of faculty put a stop to the appointment stating I didn't have a pontifical degree to be on the faculty. Paul was very apologetic but it resulted In my being assigned as director of the parish mission apostolate for the province and I've never looked back because of the joy in this original work of Vincent. That was 40 years ago. But I will never forget how affirming Paul was and gracious in dealing with me and this situation.
